Grey Board & White Lined Chipboard

Salon Paper supplies grey board (also called grey cardboard, white lined chipboard or WLC) from Ningbo, China: recycled-fibre board at 250–600 GSM, white lined on one face or grey throughout, for folding cartons, rigid boxes, book binding and tube packaging.

Recycled-fibre grey chipboard and white lined chipboard for packaging and printing

What Is Grey Board?

Grey board — also sold as grey cardboard, white lined chipboard (WLC) or GT — has a core made from recovered fibre, which is why the reverse side is grey or light brown. A white-lined grade adds a thin bleached white top layer and coating so the visible face can be printed.

The economics are simple: recycled-fibre board costs roughly 20–35% less than virgin white cardboard, and is available in higher thicknesses. Where the reverse side of the pack is never seen, grey board is usually the rational choice.

Quick Answers

What is grey board?

Grey board - also called grey cardboard, white lined chipboard (WLC) or GT - has a core made from recovered fibre, which is why the reverse side is grey or light brown. A white-lined grade adds a printable white top layer.

What is the difference between grey board and white cardboard?

White cardboard (SBS/FBB) is 100% virgin bleached pulp, white throughout, with excellent print quality and food-contact grades. Grey board has a recycled core, is 20-35% cheaper, and is used where the reverse side is not visible.

What GSM is grey board?

White lined chipboard typically runs 250-600 GSM at 0.4-1.0 mm. Fully grey board is supplied in higher thicknesses, 0.5-3.0 mm, for rigid boxes and book binding.

Can grey board be used for food packaging?

Not for direct food contact. Because the core is recycled fibre, grey board is used for secondary packaging. For food-contact packaging choose virgin white cardboard or a food-grade lined board.

What is white lined chipboard used for?

Printed folding cartons, shoe and garment boxes, toy and electronics packaging, cereal cartons and other dry-goods secondary packaging.

What is your MOQ for grey board?

MOQ is 25 tons per grade, GSM and sheet size.
