Rainbow, dot and grid holographic patterns on coated board

What Is Holographic Paper?

Holographic paper is a coated board carrying a micro-embossed metallised film on the surface. Light diffracts off the embossed pattern and produces the rainbow effect. It is also sold as laser cardboard or holographic cardboard.

Two things buyers care about most: the pattern (how the light plays across the sheet, and whether the pattern repeats predictably on the die-cut panel) and the film type (which governs scratch resistance and whether the sheet takes UV or offset ink).

Printing on Holographic Board

The holographic surface is non-absorbent, so conventional offset ink will not key to it. In practice this means: pre-treat or use UV-curable ink, allow for reduced colour saturation over the metallic base, and order the white underprint where a solid colour has to read true. Our UV printing guide covers the settings.
